Hotel Emergency Response System
using Lansitec NB-IoT/LTE-M and LoRaWAN solutions
Challenge/ Use Case Scenario
A hotel with multiple rooms and floors aims to provide its housekeeping staff and employees with an efficient emergency alert system. Hotel employees, especially cleaners, often work alone in rooms. They need a quick way to call for help in emergencies like security threats, medical emergencies, hazardous spills, or accidents. Traditional methods like intercoms or calling on phones are slow and inconvenient. These manual alert systems are not portable and delay response times. So, the hotel staff required a faster and more effective solution!
Proposed Solution Overview
Lansitec’s NB-IoT/LTE-M and LoRaWAN Tracking System were deployed across the hotel premises. The system uses portable badge trackers for employees and Bluetooth beacons in every room. Employees can press a panic button on the badge to send emergency alerts. The system instantly identifies the room location and notifies the management team.
System Component
Badge Trackers
Portable devices carried by employees.
Equipped with a panic button to trigger emergency alerts.
Bluetooth Beacons
Installed in every hotel room to provide precise indoor location tracking. Advertise unique identifiers periodically, enabling accurate room identification.
Bluetooth Gateways
Indoor Gateways:
Installed on each floor to collect data from nearby beacons and trackers.
Outdoor Solar Gateways:
Provide extended coverage in outdoor areas such as parking lots or hotel courtyards.
NB-IoT/LTE-M Network
Facilitates the seamless transmission of beacon data to the cloud server.
Cloud-Based Monitoring System
Receives, processes, and displays real-time alerts and location data through an MQTT or HTTP server.
Integrated with a mobile app or web interface for management and response coordination.
How The Solution Works
1. Setup:
Bluetooth beacons are strategically installed in every hotel room.
Each employee receives a badge tracker with a panic button.
2. Operation:
An employee presses the panic button on their badge tracker during an emergency.
The tracker sends a signal to the nearest Bluetooth gateway, which identifies the room’s beacon through RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator).
The gateway transmits the beacon’s location data and the emergency alert to the cloud server via the NB-IoT/LTE-M or LoRaWAN network.
3. Response:
The cloud server processes the alert and notifies the management team through a mobile app or dashboard.
The system displays the exact location of the triggered alert, including the room number.
Hotel management dispatches assistance to the identified location without delay.
Solution Benefits
Real-Time Alerts: Alerts are instantly transmitted to management for quick action.
Precise Location Tracking: Each room’s beacon accurately identifies locations during emergencies.
Simple and Easy to Use: Employees only need to press a single button to trigger an alarm.
Reliable Communication: The NB-IoT/LTE-M network works even in low-signal areas.
Energy Efficient: Devices with long-lasting batteries and solar-powered gateways use minimal power.
Expected Outcomes
Faster Emergency Response: Immediate alerts reduce response times significantly.
Enhanced Staff Safety: Employees feel safer knowing they can call for help quickly.
Better Operational Efficiency: Management can act quickly, improving hotel safety processes.
Improved Employee Morale: Employees trust the system, increasing their job satisfaction.
Use Case Impact / Results & Outcomes
After implementing Lansitec’s solution, the hotel achieved a 40% faster response time. Staff emergencies were resolved more efficiently, and employee safety improved significantly.
Implementation Highlights
Setup: Beacons were installed in every room, and staff received badge trackers.
Testing: The system was tested for response speed and location accuracy.
Integration: Alerts were linked to a mobile app for real-time notifications.
The deployment of Lansitec’s NB-IoT/LTE-M and LoRaWNA solution significantly improves emergency preparedness and employee safety. In a pilot deployment, a hotel recorded a 40% reduction in response times to incidents reported by staff. The scalable architecture ensures the system can accommodate additional devices or expand to outdoor areas.
By leveraging Lansitec’s innovative technology, hotels can enhance workplace safety, improve staff morale, and ensure swift resolution of emergencies, ultimately leading to better guest experiences and operational efficiency.
